BRUSSELS (AP) — Hungary’s government will be asked to provide explanations and details about its role in the transfer to the country of 11 Ukrainian prisoners of war freed by Russia, the European Union’s executive arm said Wednesday.The liberation of the POWs has created further tensions between Ukraine and Hungary’s government, which is led by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and is one of the most friendly toward Moscow of the EU’s 27 nations. WASHINGTON (AP) — With inflation in the United States still excessive, most Federal Reserve officials expect to raise interest rates further this year, Chair Jerome Powell said in prepared testimony to be delivered to a House committee Wednesday. “Inflation pressures continue to run high, and the process of getting inflation back down to 2% has a long way to go,” Powell said on the first of two days of semi-annual testimony on Capitol Hill. Even so, the Fed last week kept interest rates unchanged after 10 straight hikes so it could take time to gauge how higher borrowing rates have affected the economy, Powell said. 18-year-old boy dies after being pulled from water at Porter Beach

PORTER, Ind. — An 18-year-old boy has died after drowning in Lake Michigan at Porter Beach in Indiana.According to the Porter Police Department, emergency crews were dispatched to the beach for two teens in need of a rescue.A 14-year-old girl was rescued from the water by a Good Samaritan. Police said the 18-year-old boy was lost for approximately 20 minutes before he was pulled to shore.Life saving measures were performed on the teen, including CPR.Both teens were transported to a nearby hospital, where the 18-year-old later died, according to authorities. Investigation continues after 146 dead dogs found in home of animal rescue president

MANTUA, Ohio (WJW) – Investigators with the Portage County Animal Protective League in Ohio are still working to determine the cause of death of more than 140 dogs found dead in a home owned by the founder and president of an animal rescue.Emergency crews responded to the home of Barbara Wible, the founder of Canine Lifeline, after shew as found collapsed in her Parma home, the organization said in a written release. Wible was transported to a hospital.Dog crates are piled outside of an Ohio residence after investigators found more than 140 dead dogs in a home belonging to the founder of an animal rescue.
